Logistics Solutions Design
What does logistics solutions design have to do with chickens? Find out in the welcome video for my module on "Solutions Design in Logistics and Supply Chain Management" at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).
Product vs Process Flow
How is a product-based flow different from a process-based flow? This is a class activity (using Lego bricks) conducted in January 2022 at the Singapore Management University for a class on Operations Management.
In the video, the team that assembled the Lego figurines using the process-based flow method not only completed the task faster, but also with fewer errors.
This activity also illustrates the concepts of flow time and cycle time (about 70 seconds and 23 seconds respectively in the above video).
Back Haul Container Shipping
The back haul direction is an often neglected aspect of the shipping market. The following is a presentation I delivered at the IAME (International Association of Maritime Economists) conference in 2015.
Foldable Containers
Ocean containers have been in existence for about 50 years, but a relatively recent innovation has been the idea that such containers can be folded for transport when there is no cargo to carry.
My research on foldable containers have dealt with the commercial viability and sustainability credentials of such containers.
Sustainable Warehousing
Research on logistics sustainability tend to focus on transport emissions, but warehouses are also major sources of carbon emissions. The following is a presentation on low-carbon warehousing in the Asia-Pacific, presented at the IEOM (Industrial Engineering and Operations Management) conference in 2018. The analysis uses Elastic Net Regression (ENR), which is a type of machine learning.
Sales & Operations Planning
The concepts of moderation and mediation are often confused, even among many experienced researchers. What is mediation and how can it be tested? These questions (in the context of S&OP) are the focus of the following presentation I gave at the Singapore Management University (SMU) in 2019.
